CLIFTON, N.J. - Joseph Federico, NJMET Director of Operations, announced the company's 26th Annual STEM Scholarship was awarded to Mario Rosenthal who attended The Passaic County Technical Institute’s STEM Academy for four years as a Biomedical Sciences major. The award was presented on June 17th, 2026, at the PCTI STEM Senior Awards Ceremony by last year’s recipient Monica Rosendo. Mario graduated with a 4.2 GPA and decided to continue his education at The University of Chicago as an Economics major with a potential double major in Political Science.
At UChicago, Mario plans to put his biomedical skills to use by completing biological research alongside his studies. Furthermore, he currently plans on staying at UChicago for the entirety of the four years while remaining active within the school through internships, clubs, and research.
Mario represents the tenth consecutive recipient from Passaic County Technical Vocational Schools and NJMET is proud to present this scholarship for the 26th consecutive year and to offer internships to current college students who will learn the intricacies of electronic component testing in the industrial, military and aerospace arenas," said Joseph Federico from their laboratory headquarters in Clifton, NJ.
After getting his degree, he aims to potentially pursue a Master’s or directly work in the sector of global economics. During his time at PCTI, Mario was actively part of National Honor Society, World Language Honor Society, Gifted and Talented, and The Environmental Sciences club. He also served as a leading member of a peer mentorship program for underclassmen called FRESH and founded Project REM, a sleep program in the school oriented to helping students overcome sleep deprivation.
With these organizations he was able to give back to his community through many presentations to expose sleep deprivation as a major problem, working closely with students to better their sleep or adapt to the school environment, and volunteering heavily to serve the people of Passaic County. Additionally, outside of school, Mario also volunteered at St. Joseph's hospital in Wayne and the Kessler Rehabilitation Center in Ridgewood over the past four years.
